About Framtidsbygder

Framtidsbygder is a non-profit association that works with rural development in Dalsland (Bengtsfors, Dals Ed, Färgelanda, Åmål, Mellerud and parts of Vänersborg municipality), Årjäng municipality and Munkedal municipality. We do this by distributing project support through the Leader method.

What is Leader?

Leader is a method for rural development. The idea is that the development of the place you live in is best carried out by you who live and work there – by you, your association, local businesses, and other organizations. It is also you who know what needs and challenges need to be addressed.

Leader exists throughout Sweden and more information about the Leader method can be found on our joint website.

The Framtidsbygder Association

The Framtidsbygder Association Dalsland Årjäng Munkedal consists of a board and an operational secretariat.

Our work is based on the Leader method, where we participate in distributing project support to initiatives in our operational area that encompasses the entire landscape Dalsland (Bengtsfors, Dals Ed, Färgelanda, Åmål, Mellerud and parts of Vänersborg municipality), part of southwestern Värmland (Årjäng municipality) and part of northeastern Bohuslän (Munkedal municipality).

The board makes decisions

Our board consists of 11 members, who are distributed between the non-profit, private, and public sectors. The distribution is important to us because the Leader method is based on collaboration. It is the board that is responsible for ensuring that we work according to our local development strategy. The strategy is therefore the basis for whether an application is granted Leader support by the board or not.

The role of the Swedish Board of Agriculture

The Swedish Board of Agriculture is our administrative authority and after the board has decided to allocate a project Leader support, they must therefore make a formal decision. The task of the Swedish Board of Agriculture is to:

  • Make administrative decisions.
  • Disburse project support to Leader projects.
  • Conduct control and audit of our operations.
